Strategic position
City of Neyshabur with a population of about five hundred and fifty thousand people is the second most populous city in Khorasan Razavi province after the holy city of Mashhad and it has a geopolitical importance due to its location on the international railway and Asian road. This city has been registered in the World Spiritual Heritage Network in UNESCO in February 2011. Also, the 190-kilometer distance from Neyshabur to the capital of Turkmenistan in the northeastern region of Iran has necessitated bringing attentions to this city in terms of political, cultural, economical and health fields.
According to the 2016 census, Neyshabur is the second largest city in Khorasan Razavi and the third largest city in the east of the country after Mashhad and Zahedan. This city has a population of 451780 people, of which 647224 are women and 227133 are men, and it has 377629 urban population, of which 664114 are women and 714514 are men. A total of 83563 people (19%) are 50 years and older, and 41781 (3.9%) are 60 years and older.
